"Explain the irony of language in the novel. Holden swears all the time, but wants to erase swearing so kids don’t see. Why? What does this say about him?"

Holden is a bit of a hypocrite, but I think he also believes that he's already "ruined", so there's no hope left for him.  Although he may think that, he still wants to protect kids from people like himself.
And, he just really likes kids.

"Discuss how Holden copes with people around him, alienating, isolating, and pushing people away on purpose. Be specific."

When Holden's history teacher started pointing out Holden's flaws and shortcomings (and why he had them), Holden didn't wanna hear about them, and he kept hoping that his teacher would shut up.  He left as soon as he could.
Holden is in denial about anything that's wrong with him, or any of his issues.  He pushes people away to protect himself.

Journal 14

Who are you?                                                                     What’s your story?                                                           What are your goals?

What kind of things do you want to be in life?                      What sort of things have you overcome?

What successes have you had?                                                                                                   Who do you want to be?
What are your favorite things about you, your family, or your friends?

Complete the following statement, keeping the above questions in mind, and do your best to fill the page in paragraph format.

If you really want to hear about it....

I was born Jessica Lynn Delpiere, to Amy June Delpiere and David Leslie Delpiere on July 7th, 1994, six days late (and my mother claims I gained an ounce for every day I was late.)  I lived in town in Allegan on Ely Street up until the summer before sixth grade.  I went to West Ward Elementary for my entire elementary career.  My mama bought a horse one year when my father was up at Deer Camp, and we boarded it for awhile at a barn on 34th Street - the one right by Christ Community Church.  We boarded Bobbie (the horse) for a year before we moved.  We bought a house on the other end of 34th Street and have been fixing it and improving it ever since (it's like a never-ending construction project around here.)  We now live on 21 acres of mostly woods and pasture and squishy mud and bugs.
My goals in life aren't that far-reaching - I just want to go to college, earn my associate degree in the Veterinary Technician field, be certified, and see what happens after that.  After I'm certified, I'd love to find work at a zoo or an aquarium - but a nice domestic animal practice would be fine too, of course.
My successes have been mostly academic recently - I took first individual place in FFA's Veterinary Sciences Competition last year, was accepted at Baker College, and I did the FAFSA (and my taxes...) all by myself finally.
My favorite things about my friends, my family, (and I'm including my boyfriend in this list), are their humor, and the way they love me.  And the way they accept my issues and quirks.

Anticipation Guide
Directions:  State whether you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning.

1.       People tend to notice when you act younger than you are, not when you act older than you are.              Agree                                       Disagree
Reason/ Explanation:  Though some people pay attention and notice when you act mature beyond your years, most people just don't notice you until you do something stupid or immature, and then they condemn and ridicule you for it.

2.      Jocks always hang out together.               Agree                           Disagree
Reason/ Explanation:  "Birds of a feather flock together," true, but always?  Not true.

3.       Only well-educated people can make a difference in the world.       Agree            Disagree
Reason/ Explanation:  You don't have to be intelligent to do kind and helpful things.

4.      It’s okay to tell a lie if it makes somebody feel good.                  Agree               Disagree
Reason/ Explanation:  Sometimes.  A big lie is bad, but a little lie to maybe comfort someone is okay -- as long as the lie doesn't hurt someone.

5.      I never care too much when I lose something.                 Agree                           Disagree
Reason/ Explanation:  Losing things that were once yours sucks.

6.       Money always causes trouble.                   Agree                           Disagree
Reason/ Explanation:  It's the cause of a lot of trouble, but not all the time.

7.      You have to let children make mistakes so they can learn from their decisions.
Agree                           Disagree
Reason/ Explanation:  Learning through doing is much more effective than learning through a lecture.  And learning the hard way makes the lesson stick much better.

"In Cold Blood starts with an excerpt from a French poem. After reading the novel, how does the poem fit the book? Use the poem and specific examples from the book."

The poem talks a person, although he is being put to death for a crime he committed, he believes that he won't end up in Hell for what he did, but rather that God will forgive him.
It ties in with the book because Dick and Perry (especially Dick) believe that maybe they should be put to death -- but they don't want to be.  They don't want to be condemned forever for what they did.

"How is your research going? What do you need to get done for Wednesday? How are you going to get it done?"

My research is going well, but I have a lot to work on in terms of the actual presentation.  I need to organize my information and make my Prezi still.
