When Holden's history teacher started pointing out Holden's flaws and shortcomings (and why he had them), Holden didn't wanna hear about them, and he kept hoping that his teacher would shut up. He left as soon as he could.
Holden is in denial about anything that's wrong with him, or any of his issues. He pushes people away to protect himself.
